The July Metalworking Business Index data has been updated. The MBI remains virtually flat at 44.5 from 44.7 in June. Exports are up, and several other indicators have slowed their down trend. July was a strong month for equipment sales with a 2.5% increase over June, and although growth is still hard to predict, the U.S. metalworking market appears to be hanging in there with basically strong fundamentals.
